The BetaFPV 85x Flip-Chip is a unique cinewhoop. It is built to carry a light-weight HD camera for smooth, creative and unique footage. It is an interesting and a different take on the cinewhoop drone.
BetaFPV 85x Flip-Chip
This drone was built with two things in mind. It had to be small and it had to be able to capture high-quality HD footage. Typically good HD cameras are big and heavy. However, there are now two good lightweight options. The Insta360 go is a tiny 18-gram 180-degree camera that has spectacular stabilization built into it. It has lower frame rates and bit rates than a professional might want but for most people, it is more than good enough.
For those that want the best HD footage but need a lightweight option, a naked GoPro is a better option. Depending on the GoPro you choose will depend on the quality of the video and level of stabilization. The caveat is that you’ll have to take your GoPro apart and fit it into a tiny little case. Stripping the GoPro of extra weight is why it is called a naked GoPro. BetaFPV includes this kit but the idea of this isn’t for me.
Once you’ve chosen your camera of choice it mounts easily to the frame of the Beta 85x with a tiny TPU mount angled at 15 degrees. There are nice rubber isolation mounts to help smooth out vibrations. Oddly they didn’t include any hardware to mount the included mounts.
The 1105, 5000KV motors are inverted and are pushing 2″ Avan 4-blade propellers. The flight controller is an F4 with a built-in 12 amp ESC. BetaFPV recommends using a 3/4S lipo rated at 450 mah. The FPV camera is a standard Runcam EOSl and the VTX is switchable up to 350 mw.
Flying the 85X Flip-Chip Cinewhoop
I found the Beta85x to be a bit sluggish on 3S so a small 4S is probably the way to go. It is a fun little tool and a good way to capture unique indoor footage. It is too small and light to be used outdoors on a windy day. I like using the Insta360 cam but find their software to be clunky. This is a fun little platform and with a few small tweaks could be a great tool for a drone photographer.
