Mobula6 HDZero 2024

Mobula6 Freestyle and Race with HDZero

The HDZero Mobula6 Freestyle from HappyModel is making waves in the tiny whoop community, and for good reason. This 65mm drone combines several advanced features into a remarkably compact and lightweight package, weighing just under 20 grams. The standout feature is its all-in-one flight controller that integrates HDZero’s VTX, an ELRS receiver, and ESCs into a single board, delivering HD video capability in a tiny whoop for the first time in one whoop-sized board.

Another interesting aspect of the Mobula6 is its choice of cameras. The Freestyle version comes with the Lux camera, which offers superior image quality with a larger sensor and wide dynamic range. This setup provides a noticeable upgrade over the Eco camera found in the Racing version, though it is slightly heavier. For those seeking a balance between performance and weight, the Eco camera is a lighter and more budget-friendly option.

The drone is powered by an F411 flight controller, a BMI270 gyro, and a 5A BLHeli S ESC, with a 5.8GHz HDZero VTX providing excellent video transmission. The integration of SPI Express LRS for the receiver ensures reliable communication, making this whoop a top contender for both freestyle and racing enthusiasts.Because this is all built into the new HDZero AIO5 this little drone weighs less than 20 grams. The Race version checks in at 19.3 grams with the ECO camera and the freestyle version with the upgraded LUX camera is 19.9 grams.

In terms of flight performance, the Mobula6 excels both indoors and outdoors. It handles well in various conditions, though it’s important to note that it is a 65mm whoop and will be affected by wind. The drone’s lightweight nature contributes to its nimble maneuverability, but it also means that durability is a consideration. My pre-production model had a 3D-printed camera mount, which will be a plastic injection molded part for the final consumer product.

Priced at approximately $200 for the Freestyle version with the Lux camera and $189 for the Racing version with the Eco camera, the Mobula6 offers good value for its features. The all-in-one design simplifies setup and reduces weight, making it a versatile choice for those looking to upgrade their tiny whoop experience. Whether you’re into freestyle or racing, the HDZero Mobula6 Freestyle is a compelling option that brings HD capabilities to the tiny whoop world.
