Let’s build a Mepsking Tiny Whoop

I recently picked up parts to build two complete 65mm Tiny Whoops. All of the parts came from Mepsking. I’ve used Mepsking parts before as I picked up parts for a 5″ that I helped a teenage neighbor build.  This tiny whoop was quite a bit easier. Mepsking has a variety of parts for a variety of different FPV quads.

Mepsking Tiny Whoop

I picked up two kits because I wanted to build one and donate one to our local drone club. The parts I used were MEPS 0802 motors, a MEPS F411 AIO flight controller, MEPS 31mm props, Ant Nano camera, BetaFPV Meteor 65mm frame and BetaFVP canopy.

The build was nearly plug and play. The camera did have to be soldered and I swapped out the PH2.0 battery lead with the included BT2.0 lead. You can watch the build above.

The MEPS 65mm tiny whoop weighs 22 grams and I think it is a solid little quad. It could use a little bit of tuning but flies well with the standard PIDS. The VTX is switchable from 25 to 50 mw and the flight controller has a built in ELRS SPI based receiver.

If you are looking to build your own FPV drone. Whether you are looking for a whoop or a full 5″ quad, Mepsking has a variety of parts, kits and accessories you should take a look at. Here’s a breakdown of the parts I used if you’d like to take a closer look:

One Potential Issue

I received two sets of everything listed above. The plan was to build one and donate the parts to our local drone club so the students could build one also. The one I built works great. However I checked the second flight controller and the VTX will not change channels. I’ve tried setting the channel in Betaflight and I’ve tried to set a frequency. It will not change. It is stuck on R1. I wrote Mepsking and this was their reply:

We typically use the default settings, so there’s no need to select the channel. The Little Pilot will automatically search for and connect to the signal, which might be a bit different from your process. Anyway, you got the signal in the end!

I’m not sure who “Little Pilot” is and why they think it is ok to not be able to change channels. If you are racing this would not be acceptable and you wouldn’t be allowed to race. If you fly with others, again this is a big problem. I didn’t get the signal in the end as I’d like to move to R8 to be above the WiFi range, but that’s OK with Mepsking.
