The Hubsan H501S is one of the best inexpensive brushless GPS quadcopters that you can buy. Hubsan has now released the H501M version and the good news is that Hubsan has even lowered the price further. The biggest difference between the H501S and new H501M is that you will view the FPV signal via an app over 5G WiFi instead of on the 5.8 GHz analog signal on a monitor.
Before you go ordering this new inexpensive Hubsan GPS drone know that it isn’t quite on par with the Hubsan H501S. The H501M model uses a Bluetooth remote and WiFi FPV signal. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth remote is laggy and the drone isn’t nearly as responsive as the original. It makes flying this drone a lot more difficult than it should be. Even if it did work well, the limited 50-meter range is pretty paltry. We would recommend you bypass the H502M and go with the H502S.

Hubsan H501M Features
The Hubsan H501M has an impressive list of features. It boasts a 20 minute flight time. The GPS adds stability as does altitude hold. You’ll get a handful of flight modes including orbit, follow me, headless mode and return to home. It is very similar to the excellent Hubsan H501S drone with the major difference being the way that the FPV signal is viewed.
The camera on the H501M is a 720p camera that you can view live on your smartphone via an app. The drone can be controlled via the app or the included remote. The remote is smaller than the H501S High Edition Remote and is more like a gaming remote with a holder for your smartphone. The remote on the H501S is notorious for going through batteries and without a dedicated monitor, this one looks to be a lot more eco-friendly. But the Bluetooth connection and limited range is a real disappointment.
Alternative Brushless Options
With the 5G FPV the H501M is now a lot more comparable to the MJX Bugs 2W. It is hard to go wrong with either one, but with the new H501M checking in around $130 that is one heck of a deal. If you are looking for a really good GPS drone then we’d recommend taking a look at the DJI Spark. It is an impressive machine in a compact form. The Spark has a camera on a mechanical gimbal that is head and shoulders above both the MJX Bugs 2 or Hubsan H501M.
