The Eachine Tyro 89 is another DIY drone kit. This one is a 2.5″ toothpick style quad with some monster motors. Eachine has made this build even easier because there is less soldering than before. The motors are on plugs so this one is going to be a snap. I definitely prefer this build to the other Tyro toothpick the Tyro 69. I’d have to say that the Tyro 119 is probably my favorite and I love the Tyro 79 as a cinewhoop. Typically the numbers in the name refer to the size of the drone, but in this case it is the price. The Tyro 89 is only $89.
Eachine Tyro 89
Like the other Eachine Tyro builds the number indicates the price of the drone. For $89 you’ll get a toothpick drone kit that you’ll be able to build yourself. You’ll have to add your own receiver but all of the other drone components are there for you.
The flight controller is a Matek F4 and the gyro is offset. That is important to keep in mind because you mount it to the canopy on an angle rather than square on the ESC like most builds. It uses a 20 amp 4-in-1 BL Heli S ESC. The camera is the Caddx Eos2 1200 TVL camera and is connected to a 25 mw transmitter. The motors are big and beefy 1204, 6000 KV motors and can handle 2-4S batteries. It has a 115 mm wheelbase and can handle 2.5″ propellers. The bottom plate is a solid 3 mm carbon. The canopy is made of tough plastic and handles crashes quite well. Some might call this a toothpick drone but it’s probably more of a twig class.
Building the Tyro 89
Building the Tyro 89 might just be the easiest build yet. There is much less soldering as you only need to solder the battery lead and capacitor. That is good news for beginners. Soldering can be a challenge for beginners but learning on a battery lead is a great place to start. It is farther from sensitive components and beginners don’t have to worry about being quite as precise. Unfortunately, there aren’t any instructions included but we’ve got you covered. Check out the build video below. We’ll walk you through building the Tyro step by step.
Should you buy the Tyro 89?
The Tyro 89 is an excellent beginner toothpick. It has plenty of power and is easy to build. It isn’t the best toothpick I’ve flown, but it has plenty of power. I like the idea of learning how to build a drone and dealing with the components as you put it together. It helps the pilot get an understanding of what the drone really is. If you want a powerful toothpick and you want to put it together then definitely check out the Eachine Tyro89.
