DJI has rescheduled their See the Bigger Picture event for August 23. The original event was supposed to happen July 18 but due to some issues, DJI decided to push back the event. It is an almost certainty that we will see the release of the Mavic 2.
We have been invited by DJI to attend the event on August 23rd and are excited to see what they release. Both Chris and I will be attending the event, so check back for updates.
In fact, we expect at least two different versions of the Mavic 2 to be released if not three. There have been plenty of leaks and speculation. We expect to see the Mavic Pro 2, the Mavic Zoom and maybe even the Mavic Enterprise. What else could we see?
Will We See the Mavic Pro II?
The Mavic 2 is basically a slam dunk for release. We have seen leaked images for weeks now. There are definitely going to be multiple versions with multiple cameras. The Mavic Pro 2 will sport a Hasselblad 1 inch sensor and the Mavic Zoom will come in at a lower price point with the ability to zoom.
The Mavic Pro II is going to be an awesome upgrade to DJI’s most successful drone. Our latest information indicates that the Mavic Pro 2 will have a better camera and 5 sides of obstacle avoidance. Look for the latest Mavic to have either the 1/1.7 inch sensor, which is bigger than the original Mavic or the bigger 1-inch sensor. We might even get a handheld gimbal option to go with the new Mavic 2. Chance of release on 8/23/18- 99.9%
Will We See the Phantom 5?
Like the Mavic Pro II, we have seen leaked images of the upcoming Phantom 5 since January. No doubt DJI wants this Phantom to be head-and-shoulders better than the new Phantom 4 Pro V2.0. The Phantom 5 has bee the most leaked DJI drone since the Spark, and it promises to have interchangeable lenses and perhaps water resistance. While the release of this quadcopter may or may not happen at the same time as the Mavic Pro II, we do expect it this year. With the Mavic 2 getting a one-inch sensor the Phantom 5 will need a big upgrade to retain high sales. Chance of release on 8/23/18- 50%.
Other Possibilities
DJI is likely to upgrade some of their other technology and it looks like their Crystal Sky monitor is on the docket for an upgrade soon. We expect it to be larger, easier to see in bright light, rainproof and have some more options for outputs. Chance of release on 8/23/2018- 50%
We haven’t seen an update to the Osmo other than the recent Osmo Mobile 2. Could DJI be releasing their Osmo 2 on July 18th? We expect a beefier camera with impressive specs. Chance of release on 8/23/18 30%
Could it be their long-awaited 360-degree drone?
We’d love to see a true 360-degree drone. We know that DJI is toying with the technology, but this one is really a long shot. The invitation picture sure looks like a 360 image. Fingers crossed. Chance of release on 8/23/18- 10%
While we don’t know yet what DJI has in store for us on July 18th we have a pretty good idea. We will be updating this article as we get information, so bookmark it and come back soon.
