The Cheerwing Syma X5SW V3 is the third edition of an excellent beginner drone. It is a stable drone and is extremely durable. It also features a WiFi FPV camera. Let’s dive in and see what this drone is all about.
What is the Cheerwing Syma X5SW V3?
The third version of the awesome Syma X5 is more of the same fun as previous X5 models. It is a quick, little and durable quadcopter. This version also has a new WiFi camera and longer legs for more landing clearance, which is handy when landing in grass. Unlike some X5 models, the X5SW does not have altitude hold. This means it is faster but also a bit harder for beginner pilots. More on that later.
The best part about the X5 series is that they are almost indestructible. I’ve crashed more Syma models than I can count and they have to be the most durable drones on the market. Sure you could lose some landing gear or on an unfortunate crash you could take out the camera, but the quad will still take off and fly.
This is a fun drone to fly. It will do flips and rolls with the push of a button. It also has a headless mode that will help beginner pilots with orientation.
The X5SW Camera
The camera on the Cheerwing Syma X5SW-V3 is a decent camera. It will take good pictures outdoors and in good light, but do not get this confused for a DJI Phantom. Most drones under $50 with cameras won’t take pictures that look half as good as your smartphone, so keep that in mind when considering this class of drone. This camera will stream a live video to your phone through a free app via WiFi.
Cheerwing Syma X5SW Range and Flight Time
The Cheerwing Syma X5SW V3 has a range of about 50 meters. The WiFi-based FPV signal to your cell phone range will vary but expect about 30 meters in an ideal situation. You’ll get about 6-7 minutes of flight time on the 500 mAh battery. I’d definitely recommend picking up extras to extend the fun.
Should I Get a Cheerwing Syma X5SW V3?
The Cheerwing Syma X5SW V3 is a solid option for any beginner. For under $50 it has a lot of features and is a great place to start. Keep reading for a similar drone that includes altitude hold.
