The Bayangtoys X22 is a GPS drone that has a full three-axis gimbal and a 1080p camera. This might be the only GPS drone we have ever seen with a full three-axis gimbal that was under $300. While we don’t expect it to be the next DJI Phantom, it doesn’t have to be for the current price of $259.99. Is it worth taking a chance on this drone? Let’s have a look.
What is the Bayangtoys X22?
The Bayangtoys X22 has all the features you’d expect to find on a GPS drone. It has a follow me mode, an orbit mode, waypoints mode and of course a return-to-home key. It uses a double GPS system for added stability.
We love that it has powerful brushless motors. The X22 will have a range of around 360 meters and a flight time of 15 minutes. It can support an SD card of up to 64 GB.
The X22 Camera and Gimbal
The camera will transmit a live FPV video feed to your smartphone via a free app. We would expect to see a 720p feed on your phone, but the camera is capable of recording 1080p images, most likely stored on a micro SD card on the drone.
The real gem of the X22 is the three-axis gimbal. We haven’t seen a drone in this price range that had a real mechanical three-axis gimbal. A three-axis gimbal will ensure smooth aerial footage. While we haven’t yet tested the quality of the camera we hope that it proves worthy of having this capability. It might even be possible to swap out the camera for an upgraded action camera or GoPro for even better footage.
Other options
The closest thing we’ve seen to a drone like this is the C-Fly Dream. It has a two-axis gimbal and resembles the DJI Spark. The Dream is a smaller, more portable drone, but we think the X22 probably has it beat in terms of performance. If you are looking for other options under $200 take a look HERE.
Without having tested the camera it is hard to compare it, but with a full gimbal and a price tag under $300 it looks to outshine similar drones like the MJX Bugs 3 Pro and Bugs 5W as well as the Aoesenma C035. It is looking to compete with the Parrot Bebop and Bebop 2.
