The Basecamp F11 Electric Skateboard is a nice option for anyone looking to pick up a beginner board. It is easy to use and incredibly quiet. Charge it up, grab a bottle of Ocean Spray, jam out to Fleetwood Mac, and let the good vibes flow.
Basecamp F11 Electric Skateboard
The Basecamp F11 Electric Skateboard has a 300W motor that is powerful enough to carry up to 220 lbs. We tested it and found it did in fact work with people just a bit heavier, but that wasn’t ideal. It was mostly tested by me, a 185 lb man, and my teenage children. I found that once I tightened up the trucks (axels) it was more to my liking. The 4000 mah battery seemingly lasts forever and gives you up to 9 miles of range.
The F11 has a top speed of 10 mph, which initially I thought would be too slow. Rarely did I ever find myself in the top gear, and I spend most of my time in the 3rd gear. There are four-speed modes. I found one too slow and four too fast. Two and three are just about right. This board isn’t built for inclines. It can handle small hills, especially if you already have a head of steam, but is limited to inclines of 10 degrees otherwise.
The remote controller is small, light, and easy to use. A simple push with your thumb gets you moving forward and a pullback will apply the breaks. It like the board is rechargeable.
This is a well-designed and solid board. The 8-ply maple deck looks good and functions how you would expect. The Basecamp F11 has 90 mm 85A PU wheels that worked well on both smooth and not-so-smooth terrain. Basecamp included a t-tool for adjustments as well as a convertible backpack to make transporting the electric skateboard easy and convenient. It is 74 cm by 23.5 cm (roughly 30″ x 9″) and weighs 5.5 kg (12lbs).
I highly recommend picking up some safety equipment. Basecamp has partnered with Monata to produce helmets for them. I picked up two and both my children and I found them to be comfortable and easy to adjust. Another safety recommendation I have would be wrist guards. Broken wrists are the most common injury for boarders as they often injure their wrists bracing themselves for a fall. I found this pair on Amazon and have been pleased.
Overall I am a fan of the Basecamp F11 Electric Skateboard. It is a good beginner board and I think it is ideally suited for children and teenagers. I think an adult would likely prefer a larger board. Starting at $300 this is a great place to start if you are interested in getting into the sport.
