The original Emax BabyHawk is one of our favorite brushless micro FPV quads. The new BabyHawk R Race Edition looks like a nice upgrade. One look at the new BabyHawk R and you can tell that Emax took what was already good and made it better.
Calling this a BabyHawk might actually be a stretch as it looks almost nothing like the original. It is larger, has a thick carbon fiber frame and an adjustable angle camera. Call it what you want. This quad is a lot of fun.
Emax BabyHawk R FPV and VTX
The design looks sharp. It doesn’t have the upright top-heavy look that the original BabyHawk did. It is a sleek-looking black quad with an adjustable FPV camera instead of the fixed one that came on the original. The camera is a 650 TVL with a 40 channel 25/200 mW switchable VTX. The camera quality is and transmission is pretty good for a micro. You’ll even have the ability to adjust camera settings via an included cable and remote.
Emax BabyHawk R Power
This little quad will measure 112 mm diagonally from rotor to rotor and will tip the scales at 89grams. It will fly with Emax Avan 2″ four-blade propellers that are powered by RS1106 6000KV motors. You can actually adjust the arms on the BabyHawk R if you’d like and extend them out. That way you would fly 2.5″ or even 3″ propellers. If you think this is powerful on 3S with 2″ props wait until you extend the arms and fly 3″ props on a 4S battery.
The flight controller is an Emax F3 Magnum FC & 12A 4 In 1 ESC mini Flytower. This isn’t the tame 2S BabyHawk, but rather a machine capable of flying on either 3S or 4S. We picked up these XF Power 550 mAh 3S batteries. They are pretty solid and a great deal for this quad.
It will be able to handle DShot up to 600. With a quad this small you can bet you’ll get big-time performance. You will be able to get the BabyHawk R as a plug and play or with a Frsky D8 receiver.
Should You Get a BabyHawk R?
This little quad is a compact beast. If you are looking for a fun little quad that can fly 2″-3″ props and is both 3S and 4S capable then you want the BabyHawk R. If you are looking for a more tame brushless quad for a beginner then check out this article.
