The DJI Mavic 3 Classic is DJI’s newest drone release but the drone itself isn’t new. DJI took its flagship model, the Mavic 3, and removed one feature, the telephoto lens, and repriced and rebranded it as the “Classic” model. The Mavic 3 Classic starts at $1469 without a remote, $1749 with the RCN1 (basic/lame remote) and $1749 with the DJI RC and its built-in screen. The Mavic 3 Classic might just be the best “bang for your buck” for professional pilots out there.
What is the DJI Mavic 3 Classic?
The first DJI Mavic 3 was a marvel of a drone. The Mavic 3 Classic is essentialy the exact same drone without the 28x telephoto zoom lens. The Classic also has an impressive flight time of 46 minutes and a range of up to 15 km. While you won’t likely need to fly over 9 miles away, the O3+ transmission system ensures you have a reliable signal no matter where you are flying. Not only that it will be transmitting it back to you in 1080p.
The camera of the Mavic 3 Classic is the wide angle Hasselblad branded 4/3″ sensor. It is the tool that professional photographers have been asking for. DJI once again paired up with Hasselblad to make sure you have the best color science available. You can get 10-bit D-log color with up to one billion colors. It takes spectacular photos and video and with the larger sensor does a great job in low light situations. DJI even added a new night mode with the release of this drone.
The Mavic 3 Classic will be capable of capturing 5.1K up to 50 fps and of course, you’ll be able to record in RAW if you choose. The Mavic 3 Classic will also be able to shoot 4K at 120 fps and 1080p up to 200 fps. This drone looks to be the ultimate tool for a photographer or videographer. The MP3 even has a variable aperture of f2.8-f/11. All of these will be packaged in a compact and foldable drone that will weigh less than 900 grams.
There are now three Mavic 3 options available for professionals out there. The Mavic 3 Cine, the Mavic 3 and the Mavic 3 Classic. The $5000 Cine version boasts large internal storage, a smart controller, and Pro Res to go with the telephoto lens. The $2000 Mavic 3 doesn’t have the Pro Res or the 1TB SSD but does offer the telephoto lens. However, the best option for most people might just be the Classic. Starting at $1470 it has all the flight capabilities of its more expensive siblings but won’t dent the pocket book quite as much.
DJI has included its impressive array of automated flight modes. DJI has included the new Mastershots features as well as 100 MP panoramas. There is a Quick transfer feature so you can store pictures and videos on your mobile device without linking to the remote controller. With the Mavic 3 Classic DJI added night mode and cruise control as well.
This also has DJI’s best obstacle avoidance system to date with the new APAS 5.0 system with full 360-degree protection. Their Active Track is also vastly improved. The Mavic 3 drones all use APAS 5.0 and its new smart return to home feature.
