What is the DJI Mavic 3?
The new DJI Mavic 3 is an incredible machine. With an industry-best flight time of 46 minutes and a range of up to 15 km, this drone is resetting the bar. While you won’t likely need to fly over 9 miles away, the O3+ transmission system ensures you have a reliable signal no matter where you are flying. Not only that it will be transmitting it back to you in 1080p. Add the 4G dongle for nearly limitless range.
The camera of the Mavic 3 also gets a huge upgrade with two different sensors. There is a wide-angle 4/3″ sensor as well as a telephoto 1/2″ sensor that is capable of 7x optical and 4x digital zoom. This drone is the tool that professional photographers have been asking for.
This is the first real consumer drone with a 4/3″ sensor and should be the best sensor for shooting in any lighting situation. DJI once again paired up with Hasselblad to make sure you have the best color science available. You can get 10-bit D-log color with up to one billion colors.
The Mavic 3 will be capable of capturing 5.1K up to 50 fps and of course, you’ll be able to record in RAW if you choose. With a soon-to-be-released firmware update, the Mavic 3 will also be able to shoot 4K at 120 fps and 1080p up to 200 fps. This drone looks to be the ultimate tool for a photographer or videographer. The MP3 even has a variable aperture of f2.8-f/11. All of these will be packaged in a compact and foldable drone that will weigh less than 900 grams.
DJI has included its impressive array of automated flight modes. DJI has included the new Mastershots features as well as 100 MP panoramas. There is a Quicktransfer feature so you can store pictures and videos on your mobile device without linking to the remote controller.
This also has DJI’s best obstacle avoidance system to date with the new APAS 5.0 system with full 360-degree protection. Their Active Track is also vastly improved. The Mavic 3 even uses APAS 5.0 with its new smart return to home feature.
Mavic 3 vs Mavic 3 Fly More vs Mavic 3 Cine
There are three different options if you are considering buying a Mavic 3. The base package includes the drone, controller, and only the necessary accessories to get you in the air. The standard Mavic 3 will cost you $2199. If you want two additional batteries, a bag, and some ND filters you’ll want to opt for the Fly More package and that will set you back $2999.
The top of the line Mavic 3 Cine will swap out the standard remote controller for the new and improved smart controller. You’ll get everything included in the Fly More combo as well plus some additional ND filters and a license for ProRes 422. In short ProRes 422 is a video editing codec that should make editing 4K footage even easier. The Mavic 3 Cine will stick out with its darker color so everyone will know you have the newest top-of-the-line DJI drone. The Mavic 3 Cine also gets an impressive 1TB hard drive to store your footage. The Cine is expensive and will cost you $4999. That certainly isn’t cheap.
