Inductrix FPV RTF
Get a 360 degree view of the Blade Inductrix FPV

The Blade Inductrix from Horizon Hobby is the ultimate fun indoor flying machine. Tiny Whoop, a derivative of the original Inductrix, brought mini drone FPV (first person view) into the mainstream. Now Horizon Hobby has answered the call by adding a camera to the Inductrix in the Blade Inductrix FPV RTF. The new FPV Inductrix is an all-in-one solution for a mini FPV racer and acrobatic drone. Ever wonder what its like to fly a fast little drone using FPV? Think Anakin Skywalker podracing in Star Wars Episode I, that’s what it feels like. This tiny yellow drone is a good entry level option into the world of racing and it comes with everything you need to start indoor FPV racing. This little drone sports the same kind of camera you will find on $1000 racing drones. With a clear picture and 115° horizontal field of view, the FPV on this drone is ideal for navigation.

Inductrix FPV RTF

You can’t discuss the Inductrix without mentioning the Tiny Whoop. Jesse Perkins and his Tiny Whoop team have been modifying the standard Inductrix by adding an FPV camera, strengthening the frame, and upgrading the motors. They created quite a phenomenon, with pilots of all skill levels jumping on the Tiny Whoop bandwagon. Now Horizon Hobby has done much of the hard work for you. You don’t have to worry about soldering and piecing together the right parts. You can open the box, tighten a few screws, and you are off to the races.

This little drone is an absolute blast to fly. It is quick and nimble. The ducted fans help with efficiency and also act as prop guards. It is pretty quiet, so you won’t bother your friends watching TV on the couch as you fly around the living room. This little machine will pinball off walls and other obstacles and keep on flying. The Inductrix will bump and bounce of objects that would bring down most other drones, large and small. The transmitter is small and fits nicely in your hand. The 4.3″ monitor provides a nice clear image and attaches easily to the transmitter. Overall the setup is pretty good right out of the box.

Some people call this the Tiny Whoop in a box. It truly is a ready to fly micro FPV racer.

Inductrix FPV
This is what you get in the box. An all in one FPV drone. FPV monitor included as well.
The Inductrix is super lightweight, and that has its drawbacks…

There are a few drawbacks to this little quadcopter. It is super light therefore it does does not handle wind very well unless you have serious skills. The Inductrix FPV is best suited for indoor flight. Its light weight means that it is unfortunately not very durable. There is a pretty solid solution. You can reinforce the weak points of the drone with Welder glue. This Welder glue is awesome. Do not buy the Inductrix without buying the Welder glueIt is well worth the small investment. Take off the propellers and add a dab of glue to the weak joints around the motors and in the ducts before you fly. You’ll be glad you did. It will help the drone survive wear and tear. And if you do happen to break something Welder glue will help put it back together. It’s inexpensive and can be purchased from Amazon HERE. It is an excellent tool to have and will come in handy repairing the Inductrix as well as other drones and countless other items around the house. Super glue doesn’t even come close. The Welder glue is pliable and strong and helps keep your Inductrix working right.

Welder Glue
Add a drop of welder glue to the weak stress points around the motors and ducts.

Horizon Hobby purposely made this drone extra light at the expense of its durability. Making this drone a little more robust might have been a better idea, especially for the beginner. The battery compartment could also use some work.  Some of the batteries fit snugly enough while others seem a bit loose. Horizon would have been better off adding a tiny bit of structure here to better hold the battery and keep the drone balanced.

Other beginner FPV options
Inductrix vs Hubsan
The Inductrix is larger than the Cheerson CX-10 but smaller than the Hubsan X4 FPV

This micro FPV racing quad is a blast. People have been building Tiny Whoop racing machines like this for a while and this is the first drone where you can purchase it all together without having to build it yourself. This drone is a must buy if you want to learn how to fly FPV style. There are a few other alternatives to the Inductrix FPV, but none of them really have the all-in-one appeal that the Inductrix does. Of course if you already have a compatible controller you can save some money by buying the Inductrix FPV BNF version. Check out the current price on Amazon by clicking HERE.

Hubsan X4 FPVProbably the closest option is the Hubsan X4 H107D. It is an excellent deal at about half of the price of the Inductrix FPV.  It includes the drone and transmitter and is a lot of fun to fly. You’ll need to pick up some prop guards and extra batteries as well. The biggest knock on this drone is the narrow field of view that the camera has. You just cannot see much and that makes it hard to pilot FPV style. That field of view might not sound like a big deal, until you are trying to pilot the drone in close quarters. But for under $100 it is a decent option and a fun drone to fly. We’ve done a full review you can access HERE, or check it out on Amazon.  It is a fun drone for beginners and advanced pilots alike.

Eachine QX90

Another good option is the Eachine QX90.  It may not look as nice as the Inductrix, or even the Hubsan, but it is a good FPV racer. It is a tiny racer with real Tiny Whoop style heritage. Eachine avoided added weight by not putting on a camera cover. It is a little bigger than the Inductrix and is the same size as the Hubsan X4. You can protect your propellers with the same prop guards the Hubsan X4 uses.  We’d recommend you pick some up on Amazon. The Eachine QX90 does not come with a transmitter or a monitor. Hopefully, you have one, if not you can pick up a compatible model like the Taranis on Amazon. Then you’ll have to have some FPV goggles. The FatShark goggles are awesome but pricey. If you want FPV goggles read more about finding the right pair here. Or there is the solid economic option with the Eachine VR-007 FPV goggles. Check out the current price HERE. If you are into the no frills Tiny Whoop experience the Eachine QX90 is a good place to start. Check it out on Amazon HERE.

Another good alternative is the DIY option. The most cost effective way to do it is to start with the Eachine E010, add an FPV camera, some goggles and throw in a little bit of elbow grease and you’ve got your own version of a Tiny Whoop. The Eachine E010 is a clone of the standard Inductrix. It’s usually around $20. Click HERE to check the price on Amazon. You’ll need to add a camera. Crazy Pony makes a few good ones. We’d recommend one like THIS. After that you’ll need some FPV goggles or a headset. We’d recommend the affordable Eachine VR-007 FPV goggles. You can build this setup for $130-140. However you will probably end up spending a little more if you end up upgrading your receiver, or buying new frames or props.  The Eachine E010 is a fun drone with or without adding a camera.  Check out our full review HERE.

Eachine 010 Conversion

We aren’t saying that you have to convert your Eachine E010 into a FPV racer. It is a lot of fun to fly as it is. It is a pretty solid little drone for about $20. Check its current price on Amazon HERE.

Inductrix FPV in conclusion

The Inductrix FPV is a great starter drone for anyone that wants to get into FPV racing or acrobatic flying and doesn’t want to spend too much time building their own Tiny Whoop from scratch. It is hard to put a machine like this together for under $200 like they’ve done. We wish that Horizon Hobby made the Inductrix FPV a little sturdier for the first time flyer that will inevitably become the first time crasher.  Good luck flying.
