The MJX B12 or Bugs 12 is the newest drone from MJX RC. It like the Bugs 20 has electronic image stabilization. However, this drone has a few physical features that the Bugs 20 does not. The Bugs 12 is a foldable drone, much like the DJI Mavic Air 2. Starting at $189 this just might be the best drone you can buy for less than $200.
MJX B12 EIS Bugs 12
The MJX Bugs 12 is a GPS drone with a 4K camera. MJX is one of the best manufacturers of quality drones that are budget-friendly. Our current favorite drone under $200 is the Bugs 20 and that is because of how easy it is to operate and capture good video footage. The Bugs 20 and Bugs 12 are essentially the same drone. The only real difference is the design.
The MJX Bugs 12 will have a flight time of 22 minutes. The range is likely to be 500 meters or so. The 4K camera will be capable of capturing 3840 x 2160 videos at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps. It will have a 1/3″ sensor and have a 110-degree FOV. You will be able to adjust the angle of the camera from the remote as well as watch in real-time at 720p resolution. It really is a good camera, the best in this price range. I even prefer it to the ZLRC Beast Pro or Pro 2 and they have an actual gimbal rather than electronic image stabilization. It isn’t on par with the Mavic Mini but is a good option at about half the price.
The MJX Bugs 12 will weigh about 550 grams and have a 330 mm wheelbase. In addition to GPS, it has optical flow sensors and altitude hold to help maintain stability. The motors on the B12 are 2204 1620KV brushless motors, giving it a top speed of 40 kph or 25mph. I didn’t have a radar gun on it but I”m guessing it is actually a bit slower.
Bugs 12 Flight Modes
The MJX Bugs 12 will have a handful of different flight modes. You will be able to create an orbit, have it follow you or opt for headless mode. They aren’t vision based systems, so they won’t work like some of the more expensive drones, but they get the job done. It also has a return to home mode. The smart controller has an LCD screen that will show valuable information like height and distance and you will use your smartphone to view the live stream and access the different flight modes.
Should you buy the MJX B12?
It is hard to endorse this drone quite yet as it is still in the production phase. However, it looks good and MJX has a good track record of producing quality products. If you want the best folding drone for less than $200 this is currently it. If you don’t care about the folding factor the MJX Bugs 20 is essentially the same drone in a different form factor but is about $20 less.
