This tiny little drone packs quite a punch. Hubsan claims the Q4 is the world’s smallest quadcopter. We can’t verify that it takes that record, but it is small and a lot of fun to fly. This micro drone is smaller and lighter than the more common Cheerson CX-10. Both of those aspects make it faster and more nimble than the Cheerson, or any other micro/nano drone we’ve tested.
The Hubsan Q4 H111 appears nearly identical to the Estes Proto X Nano drone. Like a lot of drones this very well could be the exact same drone. It isn’t uncommon for the same drone to be sold under multiple names. Whether you go with the Estes or the Hubsan version you are getting a lot of fun crammed into a tiny drone.
One of the things that makes this drone so unique is it’s shape. It looks like a bug. A fast and nimble jitterbug perhaps. This micro drone is fun to fly, and is a good place for a beginner to start for a few reasons. First, it is inexpensive. It is important not to break the bank with your first drone. Whatever drone you choose, know that it’s going to crash. It isn’t a big deal smashing this sub $20 drone into a tree or a wall, but when your $1000 DJI Mavic does it that is bad news.

The size and portability make this a nice quadcopter for a beginner. Part of the reason it is so small is that all of the components are directly attached to the board. It definitely keeps the size and weight down. We’d recommend flying this guy indoors to start, but the larger the space the better. If you have access to an open gymnasium or theater you can have loads of fun.
This drone has three different speeds. Beginners should definitely start in the low mode. Small drones like this are not particularly stable, but are easier to control in low mode. Once you’ve practiced enough it’s time to bump it up to medium. At medium the drone gets more responsive and is very fast. In high mode the Hubsan Q4 becomes a menace to society. In a good way. This thing is super quick and if you have watched any drone racing videos you can start to see how this little quad could be a good trainer.
Micro and Nano Drones are small on size, but big on fun.
