The Skyzone 03O OLED FPV goggles are the nicest pair of FPV goggles I’ve ever used. They look good and they function even better. Typically they will cost you about $400 and while that isn’t cheap it is still going to be about $200 less than the Fatshark HDO or the Orqa FPV goggles. You could also opt for the DJI FPV goggles in the $400 price range. While they won’t support analog video out of the box for about $15 you can add an analog module and fly both digital and digital. So you have some decisions to make if you want top-end goggles and we are here to help.
Don’t forget about the brand new Eachine EV300o. The EV300o goggles are the replacement for the Skyzone O30 and have a handful of excellent upgrades. Click here to learn about the EV300o and the Skyzone O4x FPV goggles.
Skyzone 03O
The Skyzone 03O goggles are the best value in OLED goggles that is for sure. Many reviewers even say the OLED screens on the Skyzones are better than the Fatsharks. Unlike the Fatsharks the Skyzone 03O come with built-in diversity receivers. You’ll likely want to upgrade the antennas, but the reception is actually quite good. Not RapidFire good, but as good or better than most other modules.
The 03O goggles are essentially the same as the Skyzone 03S but with the OLED screens. Since I have both pairs I was able to compare and the OLED screens show much better detail. The OLED screens have a 1024 x 768 resolution and the picture is clear and crisp. I am a big fan of the 35-degree field of view, it feels large and immersive. These are a moderate upgrade from the 03S and a huge upgrade from the Skyzone 02X.
Using the Skyzone 030 goggles
Changing channels and bands are really easy and quick. The menu itself isn’t super intuitive but once you get your settings the way you want you don’t really need to change anything. The DVR is excellent and is easy to start recording. You can record in H.264 and it records 688 x 480 at 30 fps. It will take a micro SD card up to 128 GB.
However, the one issue I’ve had with Skyzones is that I’ve had two DVRs fail on me. Skyzone did send me a replacement unit and I was able to install it myself no problem. While my experience with Skyzone was great they know I review products. Fatshark customer service is known to be excellent but Skyzone doesn’t have the same reputation.
You will get 48 channels to scan through if you choose. The screens have a contrast ratio of 10000:1. The IPD is adjustable from 57.5 to 69.5 mm. It will also accept custom diopters if you need to add them. The 03Os also have a built-in camera in the front you can use to see without removing the goggles. I personally find it odd to use and would rather just push them up on my face.
The goggles fit really well and there are two different faceplates for comfort so you can adjust from a wide to narrow profile if need be. The fake leather padding is very comfortable as is the wide head strap. There are inputs for HDMI and a head tracker and you can use a 2-4S battery. They weigh about 230 grams.
Which goggles should you buy?
I personally love flying digital FPV but I find the DJI goggles incredibly uncomfortable. That said you really have to think about DJI digital. It is the future. If small drones are your thing then a good pair of analog goggles are likely your best bet. Fatsharks and Orqas are overpriced if you ask me as you’ll still have to add your own modules. These Skyzone 03Os are a good buy and right now are on sale at Banggood. However, if you aren’t ready to drop $400 on a pair of goggles then I’d suggest picking up a pair of box goggles like these until you decide to go large.
