Getting juicy FPV footage from your flights is a must and we all know that the analog feed streaming to your goggles just won’t cut it. For years the GoPro Session was the answer. However, GoPro no longer is making the Session lineup. So now what is your best option? Let’s take a look at two cameras that are looking to fill that niche, the RunCam 3S and Foxeer Box 2.
Best FPV Camera
Right off the bat, I’ll tell you that neither one of these is quite as good as the Session 5. However, they both have their pros and cons starting with their availability and pricing. They are both cheaper than the Session and are currently in production. The RunCam 3S will cost you about $99 and the Foxeer Box 2 will run you about $130. You can still pick up a Session on Amazon for around $150 but who knows for how much longer. Price is important and something you’ll have to keep in mind. RunCam 3S
The RunCam 3S is a good budget camera. It is basically a RunCam Split in a nice package. It will shoot good 1080p footage at either 30 or 60 fps and can do the same in 720p if you prefer. The FOV is pretty wide, around 130 degrees and the video does suffer from some fisheye effect as well as jello on sunny days. It is fairly light weighing around 70 grams. It is a good option for just under $99.

Foxeer Box 2
The Foxeer Box 2 has an impressive sensor. The 4K footage is actually quite impressive. It maxes out at 4K 30 fps and has a variety of different resolutions that you can shoot including 2.7K superview, 1080p and 720 at 240 fps. However, the processor on the Box 2 isn’t the best and the images that aren’t 4K don’t look nearly as nice as they should. There is electronic image stabilization, but the on/off switch is backward. The app to control it lacks refinement and is half in Chinese. It is still useable but disappointing that no one at Foxeer bothered to get that right. Still, the Box 2 is a good camera and I would recommend it over the RunCam 3S.

What about the GoPro Session 5?
Yes, the GoPro Session 5 is still the king when it comes to FPV cameras. It is a better camera. If you can still get your hands on one and don’t mind paying a little bit more go for it. However, these two other cameras will certainly get the job done.
