The new Syma X25 Pro is a mid-size GPS drone that looks like a great buy. It features a 720p camera with an adjustable angle and GPS for less than $100. Is it too good to be true? Spoiler alert: YES. The good news? We have some better alternatives – keep reading to learn more.
The Syma X25 Pro
The Syma X25 Pro has some impressive features, but the implementation of these features isn’t the best. We couldn’t get the GPS signal to work. If it was working there wasn’t any indication that it was helping to stabilize the quadcopter at all. Syma has made some really good and durable quadcopters, so we were definitely disappointed by this offering. Perhaps GPS models just aren’t their niche. We really like their original X5UW and their X8 models are a fan-favorite. Below we have some other alternatives to the X25 Pro as well.
The Syma X25 Pro Camera
The camera quality is decent and the ability to change the camera angle with the servo motor is a nice upgrade. The biggest drawback with this camera is that it now doesn’t sit firmly on the drone and there is some serious unwanted jello in the video. If you are planning on taking still photos this shouldn’t matter as much, but we were more than a little disappointed after flying this drone. We suggest you pick up a Syma X8 and use your own action camera instead.
Other Options
Syma seems to be addressing the bogus GPS by offering an X25 model without it. Since we haven’t tested it yet we would recommend a couple of other options. If you want something similar then we recommend a Syma X8. Get yourself a basic X8 or one with altitude hold, but stay away from the X8 Pro, another Syma Drone with GPS. If you have your heart set on a GPS drone there are a few good options that we have tested, but they will cost close to $200.
